Granada:
Granada is located in Southern Spain. It is the most visited city in Spain because of the famous “El Alhambra” palace and fortress. Besides the fortress, Granada has delicious food and the southern Spain charm. The city is also known for the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the hiking trails that surround the city.
Where to stay in Granada:
Hostel Cascabel is located on calle Elvira, which is a famous street. The hostel has a bar inside and is a large apartment that has been converted into a hostel. I recommend this accommodation only if you are traveling to Granada during off tourist season. The place is small but definitely has a great vibe.
What to do in Granada:
Visit La Alhambra: It is worth the money and long lines. Get there early and book your tickets in advance. This is one of the most visited sites in all of Spain. The Nasrid palace was my favorite part. Plan to spend three to five hours here. Get on the C32 red bus for €1.4 to avoid walking up the hill to La Alhambra.
Free walking tour: The “Essentials of Granada” tour was a great introduction to the city. It lasted two hours. Don’t forget to tip your tour guide!
Best eats in Granada:
Puerta de Syria: I had a chicken and rice meal for €8.
Plaza Nueva: There are several different restaurants in the plaza. Try as much beer as you’d like because the tapa of choice from the restaurant is included in the price. I had a delicious curry chicken tapa in this plaza.
Conclusion: Granada is Spain’s most visited city with good reason. The food is some of the best in all of Spain. La Alhambra is a must visit. Try to visit this city during the winter or early spring to avoid large amounts of crowds and tourists.
